A Few Suggestions On How To Treat Eczema
It is possible to treat Eczema, but before we discuss these treatments we should really know what it is we are going to treat. It is a dry skin condition that is quite common among children. People are affected by it in different degrees. But the good news is that it is not contagious.
It will be very noticeable if you do suffer from this condition. Your skin will start to itch all the time and become very red. In more severe cases of the condition you might even find that your skin starts to weep.
The first thing you do when starting to treat this skin condition is to make an effort to stop it getting any worse. And the best way to do this is to stop scratching it. To help you with this it is best to apply creams and ointments to the affected areas. These will help to keep the skin moist. The best time to apply them to the skin is after bathing so the moisture from the bath is still locked into the skin.
Another option is the application of a cold compress. If the moisturizing or compress do not seem to be working go to the nearby drug store and buy some cortisosteroid cream. This is designed to reduce the inflammation of the skin. If you are still not having any success then a visit to your doctor is required and then take his lead in the way of treatment. A lot of these treatments do come with possible side effects so be aware of these.
All the creams and lotions will have no effect at all if the itching is very severe. In situations like these you must visit your doctor. They will then prescribe you with an antihistamine combined with a mild sedative. A feeling of drowsiness is a common side effect of this type of drug, so the best time to take them is in the evening and then they will help you sleep better.
For people who want to use some other form of treatment they can try using tar treatments and photo-therapy. Tar treatment has only one problem and that is being very messy. If none of the treatments mentioned have worked then the final resort is to use a drug called cyclosporine A. This works by modifying the body’s immune system, but it has been known to have some very serious side effects.
Those who suffer from atopic dermatitis, another form of skin condition, there are two topical medications from which to choose, and both have been approved by the FDA. They are namely tacrolimus and pimecrolimus. They belong to a class of drugs called calcineurin inhibitors. These work by modulating the immune response, but they have no long term side effects.
The irritation, itching and pain of the skin condition known as eczema can be reduced by eczema cream. Eczema creams soothe the itching and burning and assist in preventing infections and scarring.
